TecEx was selected as the project manager, Importer of Record (IOR), and compliance partner to a large technology firm. The firm required a partner with expertise in moving high-value, large-scale technology components cross-border and managing a complete enterprise-grade data center build from end to end across two separate sites.
The project involved the import of extremely high-value equipment from multiple countries, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and cooling systems. The project also required involvement in the entire data center build process, from site selection and permitting to construction and commissioning. This included coordinating with multiple vendors, managing budgets, and ensuring that the project was completed on time and within budget.
This case study highlights TecEx’s expertise in managing complex cross-border shipments and data center builds.
The client, a developer and manufacturer of computer software, consumer electronics, and related services, was planning to build a new enterprise-grade data center in the United Arab Emirates. They needed to import almost USD $100 million worth of server racks and network equipment from multiple vendors around the world. The equipment had to be custom-built, which meant it had to be sourced from different countries and shipped to the UAE over a three-month period.
The company faced a number of challenges in getting the equipment to the UAE. First, they had to coordinate the movement of the equipment from multiple vendors. Second, they had to comply with the UAE’s recently changed tax and import regulations. Third, the server racks were 2 meters tall and required special handling and shipping.
All of these challenges could have caused delays in the project, but TecEx was able to overcome them. TecEx worked closely with the company to develop a custom shipping plan that met their specific needs. TecEx also coordinated with the vendors to ensure that the equipment was built and shipped on time. The entire project was completed on schedule and within budget, and the company was very happy with the results.
TecEx worked closely with as many as six of the client’s service integrators and hardware resellers to ensure that the project was delivered on time and on budget. TecEx’s on-the-ground team also managed the shipping process from start to finish, engaging with in-country stakeholders and liaising with customs authorities to secure timeous and efficient processing of paperwork.
As one of the key partners of this new data center, the project reiterated the attention to detail and practical experience that TecEx is able to bring to a business that operates in a highly complex and competitive environment. Our ability to confirm both costs and lead times upfront facilitated project momentum and synchronicity for this leading software provider. Back home, this valued partnership served to remind the TecEx team of its drive to deliver operational excellence to and through the business of technology.
TecEx was the perfect partner for this project. We have a team of experienced professionals with a proven track record of successfully importing high-value technology equipment. We also have a global network of partners that can help us source equipment from anywhere in the world.
This project is a great example of TecEx’s expertise in managing complex cross-border shipments. TecEx is a trusted partner for companies that need to move high-value, large-scale technology components around the world.
