Importers must secure formal import authorization (Demande Descriptive d’Importation – DDI) from the Ministry of Commerce if their imports exceed 12 million GNF (approximately USD 1,250).
Corruption remains a significant obstacle in the customs clearance process. To streamline foreign trade procedures, Guinea launched the Guichet Unique du Commerce Exterieur, an online one-stop-shop portal, in September 2019. This platform digitizes commercial transaction management, simplifies customs declaration submissions, and facilitates the issuance of certifications and import/export authorizations.
Despite these challenges, as Guinea’s economy expands, there is a growing demand for various technology products and services.
Guinea is part of the Mano River Union, which enforces uniform customs tariffs among Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. Additionally, Guinea is a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), comprising fifteen countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
