Navigating APAC Data Center Deployment
The Challenges
Our Solution
Getting high-value data center infrastructure, such as servers, GPUs, routers, and switches, through Asia-Pacific customs is challenging. As specialists in facilitating APAC data center deployments, we knew that we needed to:
- Implement an end-to-end Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) solution,
- Centralize the cargo from US vendors to consolidate the shipment,
- Protect the sensitive data center equipment with liability cover and temperature controls,
- Undertake a comprehensive pre-compliance review to ensure all documentation requirements are met.
The Result
“Moving high-value equipment into APAC is not easy, especially at such a large scale. With deployments across multiple countries, each with its own regulations, we had to be precise in how we navigated customs. Our team took full ownership of the process, making sure everything cleared smoothly and arrived at all of the destination countries within the six-week timeline.”

APAC Data Center Deployment: Shipping Tech Gear to APAC
Throughout this APAC data center deployment, we had to navigate seven different countries, each with its own regulatory requirements and logistical complexities for AI gear. Compliance was paramount, as each location has its own documentation and approval requirements. For example, importing tech to Malaysia requires a SIRIM certificate, whereas importing to Indonesia requires type approvals, SDPPI, and SNI licenses. This complex regulatory landscape made a compliance-first approach essential to avoid delays, fines, or stuck shipments.
TecEx also assisted the client with a seamless centralized procurement strategy across all regions. A single procurement channel enabled the client to manage sourcing, purchasing, and distribution of technology across the entire organization. Rather than having individual regional offices sourcing hardware, everything flows through a single channel, enabling volume discounts, predictable budgeting, and strategic planning.
At the same time, we managed all compliance requirements end-to-end. We gathered all the necessary documentation and maintained continuous oversight of regulations across Japan, Singapore, Australia, China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This ensured smooth customs clearance in every country.
We transported the equipment from the US to the respective countries via air freight and ground transport, navigating transportation for both major cities and remote locations. Given the high value of the shipment, we equipped all our carriers with temperature and humidity controllers, ensuring that all goods were protected throughout transit.

Mapped country-specific import requirements across all seven APAC destinations

Secured all the necessary documentation and approvals, while also providing U.S.-based warehousing and consolidation services.

Cleared shipments compliantly in each destination and completed final mile delivery to each data center site.
TecEx managed the entire process end-to-end, from equipment collection through to final delivery at colocation and enterprise sites. By combining centralized planning with proactive compliance and secure logistics, we ensured all data center infrastructure was delivered efficiently, on time, and without additional costs or delays. We acted as the IOR for the 7 locations, so the client did not need to set up a local entity in each country, further ensuring the 6-week timeline was met.
Why APAC Is Driving Data Center Expansion
As global demand for AI and cloud infrastructure accelerates, the Asia-Pacific region is emerging as a key growth market for data center deployment and colocation expansion. This sudden spike in data center colocation in APAC is driven by constraints in parts of Europe, including power grid limitations, space scarcity, and growing regulatory pressure from energy efficiency requirements. These challenges are slowing the pace of new infrastructure development. Explosive growth, AI-First infrastructure, and rapid scalability are making APAC a strategic destination for global data center expansion.
TecEx for Seamless Data Center Deployments into APAC
This multi-country deployment was successfully executed using TecEx’s seamless DDP solution and white-glove delivery services. Navigating this complex trade environment meant we had to carefully monitor the entire shipment from start to finish, ensuring that the data center equipment cleared customs smoothly and that the highly sensitive servers and GPUs were carefully managed.
With extensive experience navigating global trade environments, TecEx enables organizations to deploy critical IT infrastructure to the most challenging locations without delays, additional costs, or compliance risks.
