Despite being one of the poorest countries in the world, Malawi still puts 1% of its GDP towards Research and Development (R&D), one of the highest ratios in Africa. Because of this dedication to R&D, there is potential for the country to develop its science and tech sectors and foster innovation.
Malawi is part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), a Regional Economic Community comprising 16 Member States; Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
